In December 2000, CIBC Asset Management acquired a family of funds known as the CIBC Mellon Pooled Funds. These funds, subsequently renamed the "Centaur Funds", have introduced the notion of offsetting investment styles. Like the wise adage to "not put all your eggs in one basket", the combination of two investment styles within one fund strives to reduce portfolio volatility over time, as these funds are positioned to capitalize on the investment style that the markets favour.
