About INTERAC® Direct Payment

INTERAC® Direct Payment lets you pay for your purchases without carrying cash - all you need is your CIBC Convenience Card. Your money stays in your account until the moment you make a purchase. Just look for the INTERAC Direct Payment sign. Most stores and businesses now accept it as a form of payment.

Your CIBC Convenience Card is your key to INTERAC Direct Payment

INTERAC Direct Payment works just like a bank machine. You use the same CIBC Convenience Card and secret password.

  • There's no need to carry large amounts of cash
  • You can make fewer trips to the bank or bank machine
  • You'll spend less time writing cheques
  • Just keep the receipt for your records
  • The payment will also show up on your monthly statement

How it works:

  1. The cashier swipes your CIBC Convenience Card through a terminal and hands it back to you.
  2. The cashier hands you a keypad, which only you can read. You verify the amount of the purchase and select an account from which to pay.
  3. Key in your bank machine password and wait for the transaction to be approved.
  4. That's it! The cashier gives you your sales receipt and a transaction record, which you can check against your bankbook or monthly statement
