Stop Payments

You can stop payment on a cheque* quickly and easily with the CIBC Telephone Banking automated service. The CIBC Telephone Banking automated service offers full service banking at your fingertips 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-465-2422 or 1-888-337-2422 (for service in French).

Once you have entered your Convenience Card number and Telephone Banking password, the main menu will direct you to initiate the stop payment.

To initiate a stop payment, you need to know:

• The type of account the payment came from (chequing or savings)
• The exact dollar amount of the payment
• The cheque number
• The payee name

*Processing of a stop payment is subject to information being complete and accurate and the item not already having been processed.
