Computers for Schools
CIBC encourages the reuse of decommissioned computer components and contributes to technology literacy as a founding member and the largest corporate supporter of Industry Canada's Computers for Schools program. Since it was established in 1993, CIBC has donated computer components valued at more than $3 million, which are refurbished and donated to schools and libraries.
Learning for a Sustainable Future
CIBC supports Learning for a Sustainable Future, an organization whose mandate is to work with educators from across Canada to integrate the concepts and principles of sustainable development into the curricula at all grade levels. Its programs are dedicated to promoting a greater understanding of the interconnectedness of economic, environmental and social issues through education.
Evergreen
Evergreen works to bring nature to our cities through naturalization projects. CIBC is a founding partner of Evergreen at the Brick Works, which will be an environmentally based, mixed-use cultural attraction in Toronto relating to the 3 core themes of nature, culture and community. CIBC has also supported Shade for Kids, an initiative which provides guidelines, strategies, design ideas and plans for school ground shade programs to combat the rising incidence of skin cancer rates among young Canadians.
World Wildlife Fund Canada Arctic Program, Nunavut
Since 2002, CIBC has supported 2 initiatives designed to support local communities in Canada's Arctic region. The Nunavut Conservation Project focuses on the importance of conservation as a key long-term objective for achieving sustainable development in northern Canada. The Arctic Youth and Conservation Program gives Aboriginal young people the opportunity to experience their own culture, language and traditions through educational programs and training workshops facilitated by World Wildlife Fund Canada.
Nature Conservancy of Canada
The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is a national non-profit land conservation organization dedicated to the direct protection of ecologically significant land and wildlife habitats across Canada. Since 1962, NCC and its supporters have helped to protect more than 1.9 million acres of land as a lasting natural legacy for all Canadians. CIBC's multi-year support is helping to advance conservation at more than 50 of Canada's most ecologically important sites.
Waterfront Regeneration Trust
CIBC is a founding partner of the Lake Ontario Waterfront Trail, having donated more than $1 million since 1996 to support the expansion, enhancement and promotion of the Trail. Spanning 650 kilometres from Niagara-on-the-Lake to the Quebec border along the Canadian Shores of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River, this expansion is changing the face of waterfront communities. The Trail has made Waterfront Regeneration Trust, the organization which oversees the Trail, an important part of local natural and urban revitalization and conservation efforts.
