CIBC Professional Edge® Student Program

CIBC recognizes the high cost of education and we can help provide the money you need if you're a student starting or completing a degree in:

The CIBC Professional Edge Student Program offers from up to $55,000 up to $150,0001 (depending on your field of study) to students who need help with their education, living and residency costs. Students have access to a CIBC Personal Line of Credit (PLC) and only pay interest while attending an accredited Canadian university or college and for up to 12 months after graduation or end of residency (or up to 6 months if they leave the program without graduating). Upon graduation or completion of residency, you can request the repayment option that best suits your needs.

Payments designed for students
  • You pay interest only on the amounts you actually use while you are in school and for up to 12 months after graduation or end of residency2 (or up to 6 months if you leave the program without graduating)
  • Make payments by transferring funds to your CIBC Professional Edge Student PLC through CIBC bank machines, Telephone Banking and Online Banking
  • Your CIBC branch can also set up automatic payments for you
Repayment options that work for you
  • Upon graduation or completion of residency, you can request the repayment option that best suits your needs1, including:
    • Continuing to make interest-only payments on your PLC
    • Making payments on your PLC of 3% of the outstanding balance or $60 - whichever is greater
    • Convert PLC to a term loan with principal and interest payments
    • Regardless of the repayment option you choose, you'll continue to enjoy the same variable rate based on CIBC Prime3

Information you need to know:

  • There is no charge to set up a CIBC Professional Edge® Student Program
  • Payment due dates are set out on your monthly statement
  • If you leave the program without graduating, the CIBC Professional Edge Student PLC is converted to a personal loan 6 months after you leave

1 Only medical and dentistry students may apply for up to $150,000. Annual credit limit increases, the special one-time limit increase and other program features are subject to proof of enrolment, a continued good payment history and credit record, and a satisfactory cash flow analysis. Applicants must meet all CIBC lending criteria, including on graduation or completion of residency. Certain conditions and restrictions apply. Credit limit determined by CIBC, in its sole discretion. Qualified guarantor may be required. Products and their features may change at any time. Part time students are eligible for reduced credit limits determined by CIBC. Masters of Business Administration (MBA, Executive MBA), Law (LLB, LLM, JD), Accounting (CA, CGA, CMA), Registered Nursing and Podiatry are eligible for total program costs (tuition + activity fees) plus 10% to a maximum limit determined by CIBC.
