The Email Money Transfer service for online business banking clients is just like sending and receiving cash, only now it’s done electronically.

An Email Money Transfer is a quick and easy way to send and receive payments electronically and it’s available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Email Money Transfers provide you with the flexibility to:

  • Use existing CIBC payment electronic networks to securely transfer money
  • Use only your recipient's name and e-mail address - you don’t need to know his/her account number
  • Select or create a security question and answer to verify that the person receiving the money is the intended recipient
  • Send money to almost anyone with an e-mail address and a Canadian dollar bank account at a Canadian financial institution
  • Have money deposited electronically into a recipient’s bank account

How do you send / receive an Email Money Transfer?

In order to send a transfer through a CIBC Business Account, you must have a CIBC Small Business Convenience Card®, be a primary signing authority and be registered for CIBC Online Banking.

You will also need to know your recipient’s name and e-mail address. Almost anyone with an e-mail address and a Canadian dollar bank account at a Canadian financial institution can receive a transfer.

All CIBC Small Business Convenience Card holders registered for CIBC Online Banking can receive Email Money Transfers.

To send or receive Email Money Transfers from or to your CIBC business account, you must register for this service through CIBC Online Banking.

Registration is quick and easy:

  1. Sign on to CIBC Online Banking
  2. Select “Email Money Transfers” from the left-hand navigation menu and then select “Get Started” from the bottom of the page
  3. Review the “Interac Email Money Transfer Terms and Conditions” and select “I Accept” at the bottom of the page
  4. On the setup page, provide your e-mail name and e-mail address and select “Continue”

* CIBC may set limits for the amount of money you are allowed to send and receive using the Service, and CIBC may block attempts to send or receive Transfers that exceed such limits. CIBC may also change such limits at any time, and from time to time, without prior notice to you. Other Participating Financial Institutions and CertaPay may also set limits for sending and receiving Interac Email Money Transfers. CIBC shall not be responsible or liable for any losses or damages that you or any other Person may incur arising from such limits set by CIBC, CertaPay or any other Participating Financial Institution or changes to such limits.

** CIBC will not send any Transfer that is less than $10.00.

Limits for sending or receiving Transfers.

Receive limits:

CIBC may block a Transfer sent to a CIBC Recipient if the total of all Transfers received by that Recipient exceeds any of the following:

  • $10,000 in any 24-hour period
  • $70,000 in any 7-day period
  • $300,000 in any 30-day period

These limits apply to the sum total of all Transfers sent or received on behalf of the Business in the applicable period.

CIBC fees.

  • Sending an Email Money Transfer (network fee): $1.50
  • Withdrawal fees associated with the CIBC account (if any) are additional
  • Receiving an Email Money Transfer using CIBC Online Banking: Free
