Contribution Information

Make sure the amount you enter (one-time or recurring) is within your TFSA contribution limit. If you don't know your contribution limit, contact the Canada Revenue Agency. Exceeding your personal contribution room will result in a 1% penalty tax per month for each month you’re over your limit. If you're a non-resident, you'll be subject to a similar tax on your contribution while a non-resident.

Your contribution will be dated today or the next business day. However, funds may take up to 2 business days to be transferred from your deposit account to your TFSA account which will not affect the contribution date. Provincial holidays are considered business days when determining a contribution date. Saturday, Sunday and federal holidays are considered non-business days.

  1. If you are opening a new TFSA:
    • You are applying for a CIBC Tax Free Savings Account (the "Plan") and are asking CIBC to please file an election with the Minister of National Revenue to register your Plan as a Tax-Free Savings Account under the Income Tax Act (Canada), and, if applicable, the income tax legislation of the Province indicated in the address you provided in this application.
  2. You authorize CIBC to withdraw the amount(s) that you have indicated from the CIBC account you have indicated, and to contribute the amount(s) to your new TFSA or your existing TFSA, all as set out in your application.
  3. You agree that any contribution to the Plan is subject to the CIBC Tax Free Savings Account Agreement as amended or replaced from time to time.
  4. By accepting this offer, you consent to receive electronic versions of any documents relating to this offer (“Documents”) that we’re required by law to provide in writing, despite any other electronic document consent you provided. You’ll get these Documents electronically through CIBC Online Banking®, which can be accessed from www.cibc.com. This consent will take effect immediately. To access the Documents, you’ll need to be registered for CIBC Online Banking and signed into your account. The Documents are available in My Documents in CIBC Online Banking.
