Robert Cancelli.

Robert Cancelli is the Executive Vice-President and Head of CIBC Wood Gundy, Private Investment Counsel and Investor’s Edge. He is responsible for the strategic direction of those three businesses, in addition to CIBC Trust. 

Prior to joining Wealth Management, Robert worked in Capital Markets for more than 20 years. He started his career as a proprietary trader with a U.S. broker dealer as well as an equity trader on the buy side. Following his move back to Canada in 2005, he spent time in institutional equity sales at two separate broker dealers. He joined CIBC in 2007 in electronic trading sales, before assuming leadership of Prime Services in 2016, a group that provides electronic trading access, prime brokerage and securities lending. He added Investor’s Edge to his responsibilities in 2021 and transitioned to his current role in 2024. 

Mr. Cancelli holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College, and has spent his entire career in the financial services industry in Toronto and New York.
