What was the inspiration behind this work?

The blessings in my life are largely because I was lucky enough to be born in Canada. This piece is inspired by the dream that must have existed in my parents’ minds about Canada and the life they might find here. The maple leaves are rich in colour and diversity and beautiful despite imperfections.

What kind of reaction do you hope to inspire with your work?

I hope my works inspire viewers to reflect on their own journeys, where they came from and where they are headed. In particular, the journey that spans beyond our own lifetime, from generation to generation.

What role has ambition played in your artistic journey?

When I changed careers to art 5 years ago, I brought the same ambition and work ethic that fuels hundreds of thousands of newer Canadians. We saw the sacrifices and hard work our parents went through to give us better opportunities in Canada. My sacrifices fuel my ambition and it brought me success in my previous career; it will no doubt do the same for my artistic journey.
