The artwork entitled “Tahanan,” meaning “home” in Tagalog, is a visual homage to the archipelago islands of the Philippines. It reimagines the Palawan region in a surreal composition bursting with tropical beauty and exotic elements. The vibrant colours and shapes are inspired by the cultural diversity of the 7,640 islands. Each is unique in its landscape formations but shares a common connection of being surrounded by ethereal waters. This mixed-media painting is a celebration of travel in undiscovered regions of the world, enticing those to explore and uncover the natural beauty that already exists before them.
What role has ambition played in your artistic journey?
Ambition has always propelled my artistic journey forward. I’m the type of person who sets big goals and pursues them with enthusiastic determination. As an artist, it’s integral to experiment with your work and that requires ambition and a willingness to be fearless.
What kind of reaction do you hope to inspire with your work?
I hope people will get a sense of wanderlust through this artwork and encourage them to explore undiscovered places. For me, the act of travel means homecoming. It’s a connection to a destination that becomes the pursuit of knowledge, creativity and spiritual awakening. These are the qualities I hope the artwork guides the viewer to feel.
