Interac document verification service
Interac document verification service helps verify your identity using your government-issued photo ID and facial biometrics. The service helps you access online services that require proof of identity without having to visit a banking centre.
When verifying yourself online using Interac document verification service, you’ll be prompted to take a photo of your government-issued photo ID document and a selfie to confirm your proof of identity.
At this time, there is no Interac document verification app. CIBC may prompt you to use the Interac document verification service when verifying yourself online.
Supported documents include:
Canadian driver’s licence
Passports (Canadian-issued and select foreign passports)
Provincial photo IDs
U.S. driver’s licence
Indian Status Card
Oher government documents aren’t supported at this time.
There are a few reasons that we may not be able to verify your identity online, including but not limited to:
Lower quality images
Missing images
Unsupported documents
Expired documents, or
Photos that don’t meet the guidelines.
You can use Interac document verification service when applying for select CIBC products online, such as deposit accounts and credit cards, using your mobile or desktop device.
To create an Interac verification service account profile through the mobile app:
Download the free Interac verification app from the App Store for iOS, or Google Play for Android. Data rates may apply.
Once installed, open the Interac verification service app.
Select Get Started and follow the instructions to complete the registration process.
To create an Interac verification service account for web-based use (where available), simply select the Interac verification service button, if the partner website has one, and follow the instructions to complete the registration.
The Interac verification service is available across Canada. The Interac verification app doesn’t impose geographic restrictions on where the user can use the app. However, the Interac verification app only communicates with Canadian organizations and services.
The web-based version of the service, which is an available option with participating service providers, can be used on any device that has an internet browser. The Interac verification service mobile app is supported on iOS 12+ and Android 6+ mobile devices. Note that the app doesn’t support tablets or the preview or beta editions of iOS and Android.
